Wild Speculation On Mets 2009 Colors

I got the MLB Christmas catalog yesterday and noticed that there are quite a few Mets items with a very dark blue, almost a Casey-era blue.   These aren’t random oddball caps or things labeled “Cooperstown Collection” – they’re right there with all the normal items from the other teams.

I’ve looked around the internet and I can’t find any images, and none of this dark-blue stuff appears on mlb.com, and I’m too lazy to hook up the scanner right now.

At the end of the season there had been a rumor of some darkening of the blue that would make the orange pop – we talked about it here off a mention by Mets By The Numbers.

Anyway what I saw in the catalog matched the rumor from October 8th, which was denied the next day.   Let’s hope it was accurate.

  1. Dude that is the whole problem with the Mets right there. Changing the color of the uniform. Man you need to go with the classic colors and never change them. Use your tradition because you do have one. The plucky underdogs. Ya gotta believe. Tom Seaver, Tommie Agee, Cleon Jones, Ray Knight, Gary Carter, Dayrl and Doc. Embrace it don’t run away from it. If you change you team uniforms every freakin’ year you might as well be the Texas Rangers. Jeeez.

  2. The first thing you should do is take the names off the jerseys. You should know who your guys are without a number. Real Mets fans do, I know they do. Seriously. Go against the trend. No numbers, old school uniforms. A new traditional feeling for the new staduim.

  3. Whether the blue is darker or not, I would really like to see them start wearing the blue with the grey uniforms again, they were doing it for a while last season and I think it looked great, and more like the mets than those stupid blue brimmed road hats (I dont like em if you cant tell). Bring back the blue hats, darker or not.
    Lets Go Mets!

  4. Please join, “NY METS-Take Back the Black on Facebook if you want to get back to the classic Mets uniform. It’s a new group, but it’s a movement!
