As a Baseball Fan this Sickens Me

I am firmly in the belief that a person wearing a visiting teams hat while they are playing against the local team is fine. You are an out of town supporter of your team? Welcome to Citi Field. Are you going to get some good natured ribbing probably. But the stuff like this that is happening around the country is ridiculous. The IDIOTS that fight with other fans because they don’t root for the same team are just so low.

From Yahoo Sports.

According to the report, Fortese suffered severe head trauma and a skull fracture, and had to be revived at the scene by an off-duty state trooper. He’s now listed in serious condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

It’s said Fortese was attending the game with Taylor Queen, who traveled over three hours from Virginia to meet him at the ballpark. It was their second date together and it was going well until the two fans alleged in the assault noticed he was wearing a Yankees hat.

Sadly, that is what this entire incident stemmed from — a decision to wear another team’s hat. It then escalated to truly sickening proportions.

Why can’t someone who likes the opposing team enjoy the game? I mean it has happened before. Last week at on Memorial Day The 7 Line section gave a guy wearing a Yankees jersey the business. That guy was enjoying messing with us when the Yankees were up in the score and you can tell he enjoyed us giving it back to him too. I don’t think he ever felt like he was in any kind of “danger” because he was a Yankees fan in a group full of Mets Fans. I did however here how a Yankees fan did throw a beer at some of the Mets female fans at Yankees Stadium. Seriously? Why? Why does watching a game have to come to this at all?

Don’t get me wrong. I know their are some in the Mets Fan base that are like this too, but this is all getting out of hand. I had a great time at Wrigley a few weeks ago. There was back and forth chanting between Mets Fans and Cubs Fans, but I never once had anything thing negative or threatening said to me when I was one on one with other fans.

I want to know what causes this phenomena. What makes these people even think this is all right? Is it because they think they are in a crowd that they can get away with it? I bet these are the same guys on twitter who are trolls also. There is no reason someone can not go to another teams building and cheer for their visiting team. Did this all start from gambling? Did people get frustrated when rooting for their teams and another team was winning and they took it out on the opposing teams fans(just a theory)?

People grow up. This is a game. Enjoy being out in the sunshine, fresh air, and being able to escape from the real world for a bit. The only thing worse then fans fighting in pro sports are parents and coaches fighting with each other and the officials in little league and high school sports. This is not worth going to jail or hurting/killing someone.

I will admit I do have a pet peeve when I see people wear jerseys to a game for a team that isn’t even playing that day. A hat I get, but a jersey meh. I just usually shake my head and keep moving on.
