Over at Ya Gotta Believe Eddie D’Anna has an open letter to Fred, calling for the return of Bobby Valentine.
We wrote a month ago that part of the 2010 marketing plan will need to be distraction. While V is not a favorite of mine (I don’t like finishing second), I think he’s a good choice for this offseason. They can’t try to sell us on “everyone is healthy, really” and head into 2010 with Murphy/Castillo/Reyes/Wright/Someone/Beltran/Francoeur/Santos and Santana and Nobody.
The News also has 2010 on their minds today.

Adding Valentine to the front office isn't a bad idea. He'd be a huge upgrade over Minaya, but since that's not going to happen, he could at least be a good addition. Give him Bernazard's job and let him oversee the minor league system. That'd be perfect. Putting him in the dugout won't accomplish much unless one actually enjoys losing to the Phillies and stumbling through September.
I still love how everyone focuses on the '99-2000 outfield while totally ignoring the rest of the starting lineup in order to say Valentine "did more with less." 3 average/role players SURROUNDED by All-Stars does not a weak roster make. If one wants to play that game, Randolph won a division title with Jose Valentin and Xavier Nady in the everyday lineup, too. Where's the groundswell of support to bring him back?
