John Feinstein has written some great sports books over the years (A Season on the Brink immediately come to mine). This one however is not one of his better tomes.
In Living on the Black: Two Pitchers, Two Teams, One Season to Remember, Feinstein chronicles – and I literally mean he chronicles – the 2007 seasons of Mike Mussina with the Yankees and Tom Glavine with the Mets. In short, it’s pretty tedious.
Glavine NEVER wanted to be a Met. he bowed to the union and took the best deal for the union, not the best deal for him and his family.
Glavine’s Met career started with him getting shelled and getting yanked and ended the same way. The next time I see him will be too soon.
