Gleasons Sporting World: New York Mets fans deserve better | recordonline.com

In this article:  Gleason’s Sporting World: Mets fans deserve better | recordonline.com, Mr. Gleason writes the kind of thing we write about around here:

…wondering if the Mets griping about the dimensions of Citi Field have taken in a game from the high seats out in left.
Because if they did, they would realize that those of us who have sat out there can’t view a wide swath of deep outfield from left to center. How on earth could ownership approve a stadium design that forces fans to watch part of the game on scoreboards?

  1. Friday night over at the US Open I was talking with someone who was in town from LA to see the tennis and he said he was heading over to Citi Field to see the new ballpark (he didn't have tickets, I told him to go to StubHub if he could). We were talking about the new ballpark and I was telling him about some of this. All he could say was how good Dodger Stadium was. All I could say was "ya, that's what I've heard". I hope I didn't discourage the man from seeing Citi Field.

  2. I went to Dodger Stadium in 1998 and thought it was great – especially when you consider it is the same vintage as Shea.

What's interesting is think about the outside of Dodger. That's right, you can't picture it. They dug out a hole and put the stadium inside it – so when you enter from the parking lot you are actually in the last row of the uppers and go down to your field level seats.

I remember the Dodger dog being tasty.

Over the winter I'll dig out some pics – since they are from 1998 I will have to plug in the scanner etc.
