41 Amazin’ ideas for the Mets #2: wear 1986 throwback uniforms

My friend and I argue about the team all the time, but we’ve both agreed on this for years – they HAVE to honor the team of 1986 somehow.

The last time they did anything major commemorating 1986 was August 2006, when they had that celebration, but even including that day, I don’t think they’ve ever worn 1986 throwback jerseys.

They’ve worn the Swoosh jerseys, they wore the 1989 road jerseys one day in 2012 for some reason, and they even wore the blacks when Franco was inducted into the team hall of fame. The current pinstripe design is still the same as in 1969, so that’s not as much of a problem, but – correct me if I’m wrong – I don’t think they’ve ever worn the 1986 pinstripe jersey with the racing stripes.

There are so many easy ways that they could find an excuse to wear them – they could have a day honoring Keith and Ron for the great job that they’ve done, or just wear them sporadically once or twice a year, or anything else. They seem to be distancing themselves from the 1986 team – probably the best team in franchise history – and I don’t know the reason, but it’s wrong. That team deserves to be recognized in better ways than random displays of giant Topps cards above concession stands, and wearing their jerseys is the perfect way to do it.
