I was listening to the voice of the Yankees last night when Matsui got doubled off first.
Sterling couldn’t figure out why there were two outs. He did realize that Rollins caught the ball and then went on to say that once Rollins catches the ball the play “is dead.” Dead? Is this some sort of wiffle ball rule from Sterling’s backyard? How is a play “dead” when Rollins fakes you into thinking the ball dropped. Is that like “cheap” when you are seven years old? Do the Yankees get to call “Wind-sies?” Maybe Girardi should have argued for “do-over.”
John it’s very simple. On a fly-ball caught before the ball hits the ground the batter is out. Any runners have to “tag up” before advancing to the next base. Mr. Matsui chose to stand at first-and-a-half-base (which doesn’t exist) so the Phillies threw to first for the second out.
