Did Kiner Leave The Booth In 1971 To Be The Mets Hitting Coach?

Did I miss something all these years?  I saw Kiner coaching in the Mets Yearbook special and assumed he helped out in the spring….and I’m fascinated by the cap he was wearing….so I googled and found this…..

  1. As far as I recall, it never happened, Shannon. Kiner, Nelson, and Murphy were working TV and radio all year in 1971. Kiner's Korner was a staple, and at one time was the longest-running sports show on TV. If he stepped down for one year, that would have never happened…
