I know I am a massive jinx, but despite all the awfulness the Nationals refuse to put us out of our misery and we might just get Meaningful Games in August this season!
Now, Meaningful Games in August is not a lofty goal, but…
- August 1, 2014: 4th place, 7 back
- August 1, 2013: 4th place, 14.5 back
- August 1, 2012: 3rd place, 11 back
- August 1, 2011: 3rd place, 14.5 back
- August 1, 2010: 3rd place, one game over .500, 6.5 back
- August 1, 2019: 4th place, 9.5 back
That’s the Citi Field era ladies and gentlemen. Wow.
Anyway, at three back and with a week to go, I guess they could be 10 back on August 1st, but seems they will be in the two to five range. We will actually get to enjoy August baseball.
Deep down I don’t think they can outplay the Nationals by three games in August, so I’m not sure what September brings. Maybe this team is just destined to sniff the Nats all summer but never make a move.
Meanwhile, I was driving back yesterday and listened to the game and OMG I could not believe the batting averages Howie was telling me. What the hell?
ICYMI: Elias–The Mets became the 2nd team since 1920 to start No. 4 and No. 5 hitters with batting averages under .180 and at least 100 ABs
