Someone should tell Mike Lupica about this petition. Anyway, if the Mets don’t re-sign Cespedes it is your fault for not telling Barack Obama to do so. Anyway, slow news day and I’m busy and @lagranderusty can’t figure out how to post an article so I need to fill space. Discuss.

Since joining the Mets, Cespedes has hit .292 with eight homers and 23 RBI’s in just 25 games. Cespedes has also shown off his extra base power, driving six doubles and a triple in addition to the eight homers, and has also scored nine runs. The Mets have seen their offense reach new heights under Cespedes, who has solidified the middle of the batting order since his arrival. After being an inept offense for the better part of the season, the Mets actually have scored over six runs a game in August and broke their franchise record for homers in a month. A lot of that credit belongs to Cespedes, whose arrival energized the team and took a lot of pressure off of guys like Curtis Granderson, Michael Cuddyer, and Lucas Duda. Cespedes has also played a lot of center field and looked very strong out there, negating concerns that he was only a corner outfielder.
