“Don’t wake me I must be dreaming !” That’s what I said to my wife last night just a little bit before 11:30 when Jeurys Famillia struck out Dexter Fowler to end last night’s game and punching the Mets ticket to the World Series.
It’s been 9 long years since that fateful game 7 when Beltran’s knees buckled at a nasty Adam Wainright curveball, ending their season. Many had said that the Mets never recovered from that pitch . That is until now.
The Mets will be playing in their first World Series in 15 years – 15 YEARS !!! It’s hard to believe it’s been that long since our team has made an appearance on the grand stage. And you know something ? I think this team is better than the squad we had back in ’00!
Just before the season started I predicted the Mets to win around 86 games and make the Wild Card by the skin of their teeth. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect the team to get this far. Yes there were huge swaths of the season in which the Mets looked like they were pretenders, but Sandy Alderson correctly sensed that this team was ready to make a huge push for the playoffs and he went out and augmented the team with much needed talent.
The specter of ’06 has been eradicated – up next is to exorcize the ghosts of ’00 !!!
LET’S GO METS !!!!
And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!
Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:
Middle reliever from the ’09 season, Darren O’Day is 33 (1982) .
Current long relief specialist, Carlos Torres is 33 (1982). Carlos is currently not on the post season roster but if the Mets do go all the way I believe he is deserving of a ring.
Other transaction of note includes:
The New York Mets traded back up catcher, Duffy Dyer to the Pittsburgh Pirates for outfielder, Gene Clines on October 22, 1974.
The New York Mets released middle reliever, Dyar Miller on October 22, 1981.
Mo Vaughn’s thinks that Chicago style deep dish pizza is as weak as the Cubs starting rotation !!!
