Ty Kelly is back!
METS PLACE JUAN LAGARES ON DL/TY KELLY RECALLED
FLUSHING, N.Y., June 16, 2016 – The New York Mets today announced that the club has placed outfielder Juan Lagares on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to June 15, with a sprained left thumb and recalled infielder/outfielder Ty Kelly from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League. Kelly is active for tonight’s game and will wear No. 56.
Kelly, 27, played in 10 games for the Mets from May 24-June 9, batting .174 (4-23) with one home run and two RBI during his first career stint in the major leagues. He collected his first major league hit on May 30 vs. the Chicago White Sox before hitting a game-tying home run in Pittsburgh (off Jameson Taillon) on June 8 for his first career homer.
He was optioned back to Las Vegas when Kelly Johnson was activated on June 10 at Milwaukee. In five games since returning to the 51s, Kelly batted .368 (7-19) with five runs scored and one RBI. Overall, Kelly was hitting .388 (52-134) with 13 doubles, two home runs, 16 RBI, 26 runs scored and a .475 on-base percentage in 40 games this season for Las Vegas.
Lagares was batting .289 (26-90) with five doubles, one triple, two home runs, six RBI and eight runs scored in 48 games this season for the Mets.
