Before we get to the story, let’s talk about the fanbase and the media, and how some players have “it” and don’t.
Let’s say an attention seeking starting pitcher was taking time in the middle of a pennant race (outrage!) to meet a horse named Harvey. People would lose their mind because obviously Matt is supposed to either be pitching, working out or watching film. Believe me there would be people complaining about it, and of course fat bloggers mocking it.
However, Cespedes can go meet a horse and the world won’t end. I hope he isn’t so tired from a trip to Belmont (that’s like ten miles from Citi Field!) and taking pictures with a horse that it affects his on field.
Anyways, on Tuesday, Yoenis Céspedes, an All-Star outfielder for the defending National League-champion New York Mets, will visit Belmont Park to meet with the Michael Dubb and Michael Imperio-owned 2-year-old named in his honor. Cespedes, bred in New York, made his debut on August 29 at Saratoga Race Course and is trained by Rudy Rodriguez and ridden by jockey Javier Castellano.
Again, if Matt left a game dizzy people would be demanding he hook himself to a hydration machine. Yo will take photos with a horse. It’s all good.
