That Marlins contract the Rockies are paying for will be gone after the 2017 season.
I don’t know if Jose will ever see $20M contracts again, but I assume he will want to keep playing at age 35 in 2018, especially if he can prove himself to be serviceable at third base.
The last time Jose was in a walk year he played quite well including winning a batting title before taking himself out of a game in front of the hometown fans and then signing with Miami about one minute into his free agency.
Is David Wright going to be magically healthy, or is Reyes heading for a good 145 games at third? My guess is the latter, which means he’s playing for a contract.
In some weird mixed up way that could be a good thing for the Mets, and then we’ll have the entertainment of watching the fans be mad when he leaves either because some other team throws him coin or the Mets cheap-out.
Or he plays 85 games as a sub infielder and scrambles to find work in 2018.
OR the Mets suck and they deal him in July and we can dust off our Don’t Trade Reyes t-shirts!!!!!
Oh….nobody ever mentions Wilmer Flores. Poor Wilmer.
Should be interesting to watch.
