In an era before Mike Piazza, Todd Hundley was THE MAN. He was the Mets. You have all forgotten but we used to engage in arguments with the west coast that Hundley was better.
41 and 112 in 1996? In Queens?! We had never seen the likes of it.
Then some injuries, Piazza came, and a well meaning but awful 34 games in Left Field that made Murph in LF look like Griffey Jr, and Todd’s fate was sealed.
Also some off the field adventures, the likes of which The WIlpons never react well to, did not help.
Todd deserves better in the Average Mets Fan’s memory bank…but that ship has sailed and he’s just another name that gets overlooked by Generation Piazza.
