Wilpons Point: The Mall is dead? Affordable housing? Major Willets Point redevelopment update!

A must-read for Mets fans who pay attention to things.  The Times has a through recap and paraphrasing them “not part of the deal, the mall.”  Also some interesting tidbits about resistance to building affordable housing first.

… Mayor Bill de Blasio struck a new deal with the original developers for a new version of the plan, which will include 1,100 apartments for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers, a school, open space and retail on six acres at Willets Point Boulevard and Roosevelt Avenue.

I will believe it all when I see it, especially that affordable housing and the school.

And “Willets Point Blvd” – what’s that?  A rebrand of 126th street?  An existing name of one of the potholed streets behind the tire shops?  Some street over by the Clearview that shows up on Google Maps?

And I am coining Wilpons Point.  First.
