I was thinking about Murphtober the other day. Now let’s imagine Murph stays in Queens and has pretty much the two seasons he has had in Washington. (Yes the Butterfly effect changes all sorts of things, lineup protection, ballparks, the Phillies jersey buried under Citi Field)….
2016: .347 25 and 104. That might actually be the best season any Mets hitter ever had. It’s wayyyyy up there at worst. And remember you’re coming off Murphtober and the World Series, so even Gary Cohen would have had to have come around.
2017: a down year lol to .322 23 and 93. Knowing how things work in this town people would probably be mad at those numbers.
At 1323 hits Murph would be closing in on Kranepool and would probably catch Reyes this season in a shootout to see who would be #2 all time. Murph would end 2018 at around 1500 hits, putting him on track to pass David Wright in 2020.
How loved would our now three time All Star 2B be? We will never know, because after all, he is terrible at base running and Dilson Herrera is playing All Star 2B for the Mets on a daily basis.
Oh Mets, you so blew this one.
