MLB Players Weekend, a decent idea nobody cares about

Now that Players Weekend is over I have noticed that nobody cares.

I think the uniforms are fun.  I also think nobody cares.

The Williamsport game is fun.  No issue.  (Other than the tournament being an abomination but if you’re gonna monetize children in an unnecessary tournament you might as well have this game).

The full weekend?

It’s nice for content.  It fills some spots here.  It gives USA Today something to write about.  It lets baseball announcers talk about something new.  Nobody cares.

The Players?  Do they care?  I mean if you’re a grown man who relives your LLWS from twenty years ago you probably do, but does Matt “Harv” Harvey care?

Half of the nicknames scream I DON’T CARE but MLB has everyone do it.  OK fine.

What about kids?  I dunno, did kids tune in because someone has TODDFATHER on the back of his uniform?  I doubt it.

It is a nice visual change or pace, and it does no harm, but I don’t think anyone cares.

I don’t even think MLB sells all that much merch.  MURPH Cubs stuff was down to just L about ten minutes after he was traded.  What did they make, five of these?   You don’t see many of these out in the wild.  So I don’t even think it’s a merch grab.

I am not saying it should go, I don’t even dislike it.  I am saying Nobody Cares.
