Prediction: this David Wright thing goes worse for the Mets than ANYTHING since 1977 including Madoff

I keep thinking about this David Wright thing.

The poor guy has done everything he could do to get back on the field, and now he is playing almost every day.

How do the Mets not activate him?

The answer is likely money, and it’s not so much about paying him for three weeks in 2018, but more about how would they be able to get insurance for however many of the 324 games David can and can’t play in 2019 and 2020 as part of his $35 million left on the contract.

This will not go well for the Mets.  Not at all.

One could see the union asking why the guy isn’t being activated.

Maybe the Mets get away with it this September and David, always the good citizen, goes quietly.

What happens next March when he wants to play?

Will the Mets tell him he didn’t make the team?

Would David asked to be released?

Will the Mets DFA him?

Could we even see the unthinkable where a team like the Nats/Orioles take a flyer on David, since the Mets would be on the hook for the salary.   Could David’s career end with a six game stint on the Orioles?

All of these scenarios are terribly ugly.

None of this will go well for the Mets and Wilpons.  None of it.

They are going to get destroyed if they get into it with The Captain.

You think fans are angry now?  You think the Madoff thing was bad?  This will be 1977 bad.  Yes I am playing the Seaver card here, and this time it will be Seaver in the age of social media.

Don’t do this Mets.  Bring David back on September 7th and enjoy the sellout crowds that weekend.   I’m really serious.

DO NOT HAVE THIS FIGHT, you may actually lose the team this time Jeff when the union starts asking questions.
