Mets Police Morning Laziness: non-rant actual lengthy piece on MLB at the crossroads

SLACKISH REACTION:    You may be wondering what’s going on with me, as I have been extra tough on MLB lately.  I actually am trying to save the sport.  I feel like there was some progress yesterday, and thus I will start with some links to that point.

In the WSJ, Jason Gay did a great piece about the nightmare of baseball bed times.  That’s a must read.

An even better read is Jeff Passan in Yahoo.  He wrote about how we could expect long games and lots of match-uppery.   That is what I call “win the game, destroy the sport.”

I’m sitting on two articles I will share later today – one was that the reporters actually asked Manfred about the late start times.  That means someone is actually paying attention to this topic.  That’s major.  Let’s keep that discussion going.

The other article is from the NYT, and I haven’t read it yet and will link later, but the headline dares you to name a big star in baseball.  I have been on this kick all summer, and some of you like to Old Man me, but look the sport lacks stars even if YOU happen to know some extra names because you play Fantasy Football.  I can name some Red Bulls players, it doesn’t make them Messi.

On that note, as I flipped over to FOX to see what the combination of time and inning was (4th inning, 9:45pm) I saw the description about the game.  It started with “J.D. Martinez and the Red Sox….”    Wait…WHO?  What?

I have blogged about the Mets every day for 11 seasons now and I am on the internet all day long as you twitter followers know (@metspolice) – and I really had no idea who J.D. Martinez is.    You can tell me I suck all I want but seriously if I don’t know who that is, he’s not a star.

So I asked Alexa who told me he’s played for four teams.   Apparently he hit .330 43 and 130.  Holy crap!  Those are STAR numbers.  Well baseball I don’t know what the hell you were doing all summer because I have never heard of him.  I’ve heard about some other Red Sox, usually Mookie Betts, but not this J.D. fellow.  You guys need to do better.   Apparently this guy his 45 home runs in 2017 – do you know where he played? Be honest.  The answer is Detroit and Arizona.

No idea.  And you can Old Man me all you want – I know who NINJA is, do you?   This is on baseball, not me.

Last night’s 8:09 start (actually 8:10 according to the box) went 3:12 which is pretty darn short for a post-season game.   So 11:22 in the east.   Still bad.

I’ll have more on this today as I go through the links mentioned above and whatever else I find.  I’m glad people are starting to write the articles.   Baseball is going to have to legislate this sport back into being watchable.  Baseball CAN take the marketing into its own hands (oh btw MLB.com your site is a very heavy and slow load).   We can save the sport.

METS STUFF:  still even more articles about the Mets GM search regurgitating the same non-news and three names over and over and over and over…..
