Link from 1985: SEAVER MASTERS MIX OF ART AND SCIENCE – The New York Times

Man I keep typing Seaver into the NY Times Archives and find gem after gem.   Here’s another from 1985.

Matt, this is why you fail.

”I remember when I was a rookie with the Mets and facing Henry Aaron for the first time,” said Seaver. ”Henry was my idol because of his consistency. I threw him a slider down and away and got him to hit into a double play. I thought to myself, ‘Gee, this is easy.’

I threw him the same pitch the next time he came up, and he hit it into the left-field stands for a two-run homer. ”That taught me to start thinking more than I ever had before.
