MLB should hype the stitches off this Paddack vs. Alonso thing

SNY sourcing The Athletic says the Padres rookie Chris Paddack, who is someone I had never heard of until an hour ago – which goes to the point of my piece here – says….

“Do I wish it was me (who received the honor)? Yeah. But the way I look at it is, do you want to be Rookie of the Month or Rookie of the Year? We’ll see, man. We’ve got a long season and I’m looking forward to Monday, competing against him.”

Cool.  Hype the hell out of this.  Cut in on MLB TV when Alonso faces him.  Tell JDG to graze a fastball under his chin.  Hope that Alonso hits a 900 foot home run off him because chicks dig the long ball more than they dig guys that play every 5th day.

This is what baseball needs as baseball does not have stars.  And if baseball can make a national star out of Pete Alonso – and then make some conjured New York vs New York slugger rivalry out of Judge vs Polar Bear, even better.

Hype this up baseball!

As for me never having heard of Paddack – I imagine there’s someone in San Diego who has never heard of Alonso.  Hype hype hype.
