Must Read: Cool story of the 1969 Mets visiting Tom Seaver in May 2017

My “Tom Seaver” news tracker caught this one, which trust me you will want to read.

It’s the tale of how some 1969 Mets went to see Tom in May of 2017.

I hadn’t heard this one before, maybe it’s in Shamsky’s book – now I shied away from Shamsky’s book because I personally feel that Nancy Seaver’s hand got forced when Shamsky was promoting his book.  I say that because, look I’m not a 1969 Met but I have kind of known about Tom’s health for several years.  I noticed it with my own eyes and ears, then a former teammate of Tom’s told it to me personally, and around Mets Town people kind of knew.  But it wasn’t my story to tell.

Anyway, this story to which I link is good and you will want to read it.

And the next day, I called her,” Shamsky says. “And she said, ‘You guys are in luck. He’s feeling pretty good today. Get over here as soon as you can.’ “

“Physically, he looked great,” Shamsky says. “And it was just awesome for all of us to sit around and talk. And we spent eight or nine hours just reminiscing and talking about the team and talking about things that were important to us.”

Seaver took Shamsky, Harrelson, Swoboda and Koosman on a tour of the vineyard. (via wbur.org)
