Mets Police Morning Laziness: thinking about what a disaster the Mets are

SLACKISH REACTION:  No this is not a rerun from 9 of the other 11 seasons I have blogged.  What a complete disaster this is.

Let’s start with Wheeler.  Did he wake up yesterday and discover his shoulder was fatigued?  Has this been going on for a while?  Regardless, it now makes him a useless trade piece with no value so so much for the 2019 rebuild.

Looking ahead – strangely after all these years building around the Five Four Aces the Mets find themselves with an Ace, a solid starter (my #1 follower Thor) and I dunno want for the future.  There does not appear to be organizational depth at SP now.  Are you excited about Doctor Kay and maybe some Mickey Jannis starts?

Going around the bases – well first base appears worked out.   There’s an albatross at second for a half decade.   Yeah yeah he hit some homers so get The Narrative out how he’s figured something out.  That doesn’t help a team with the second worst record in the league, we need that production before the season starts.

Conforto is a nice major leaguer.  We’re selling McHits t-shirts now so he must be awesome.  There used to be this guy Nimmo.

And other than that…..I guess we’re marketing JDG and some sort of Core Four heading forward?

But what is that road forward.  You may recall that some maniac mortgaged the future to bring in a former client.  A barren farm system and nothing to trade is not a good combination at all.   The only way out of that is to spend money on free agents. Good luck with that plan.

You forgot about him, didn’t you?  Maybe 34 year old Yoenis Cespedes comes back in 2020 with his $29,500,000 contract and plays like he used to despite being out for 18 months.  I guess.   That fantasied version of Yo combined with Pete might make for some fun.   I guess.  Maybe.

And here we are.  This is what Wags has brought us.  Another lost season.

We’re on the far side of celebrating 1969.  We’ve played the Seinfeld card.  Now it’s time to Catch The Rising Stars except there aren’t any.

It’s a long way from here until even November, never mind March.

This is the slog.  After these two Twins games the Mets disappear to the West Coast and 10pm starts for a week.   Home against the Pirates.  Weird road trip to play at the White Sox (more late-ish starts, great) and then a whole lot of Braves/Nats/Marlins boredom.   Only one bobblehead day left, so there’s not even that to juice the numbers.  (The Mets are selling about 2000 more tickets per game so far, if you are curious.)

All this under the fine leadership of Mickey Callaway.

So thank you Wags.  You screwed the pooch.  Now we live with it until the mid to late 2020s.  Thanks man.

Good stuff from FiveThirtyEight about netting.
