Thanks to Paul Lukas for putting this on my radar…

Now THAT’s interesting. Someone somewhere saw that a predictable date was coming and said hey let’s wear special caps on that date. Somehow between licensing and the league and all the other reasons that the Mets don’t wear first responder caps on September 11th, the Astros were able to get this done.
So once again Mets and MLB, I will ask you – when is September 11th this year? Or next year? Or in 2021 which will be the 20th Anniversary of that terrible morning.
Surely someone can figure this out. I know we have to make a dollar on everything – but hey if we can Salute The Troops and donate the funds to Mysteriously Unclear Military Families something, surely I am sure the FDNY/NYPD/PAPD and folks like Jon Stewart or Tuesday’s Children will be happy to work with you to sell caps, wear caps and donate the proceeds to charity.
Thanks Paul for sharing this with me. Nice job Astros and whoever else was involved. Now Mets & MLB – figure this out. Wear The Caps.
…
While I have the floor – wear the caps anyway. I say this every year. Just take the field in first responder caps when you host the Diamondbacks on 9/11. Make the umpires rip them off your heads. Let MLB HQ fine you. Let MLB take that hit in the court of public opinion. They will NEVER take that battle on. They will have to look the other way. Wear The Caps. I’ll even help your legal team as I can provide many many examples of the uniform rules not being enforced on a nightly basis. Wear The Caps.
