OK, as the King of Fairness I gotta admit Seaver was pretty good today. I mean sure if he actually pitched like that all the time I would be a fan, but you clowns act like this is the real Seaver and not some outlier appearance.
But hey, Iwill hand it to him. 11K shutout against the Giants is mighty impressive, even if the Giants are without Willie Mays.
Did Shamsky start? Nope.
A tough one for the Mets in the second game – they must have thought Koosman was playing, but it’s Jim McAndrew with the bad luck. 9 innings, 2 runs and an ND. McGraw with the loss.
So Mets fans, we get to September 76-54 and “just” 4.5 games out, although the hourglass is running out of sand. You would never have believed me if I had told you they would be this close, so savor every day of Meaningful Baseball In September until the calendar closes the door. It’s been a great season and I’ll take a second place after losing our team to the West Coast followed by all the misery we’ve had the entire 60s.
I’ll also take our future over the Yankees (65-66) as they play in a decaying ballpark. Meanwhile we have great young pitching in Koosman and Gary G, and Seaver is turning out to be a nice solid #3 starter (you don’t really look at wins as a meaningful stat, do you? Let’s not going renaming streets after the guy.) Look we could be Montreal, 40 games out of 1st place. Heck we’ve been 40 games out – 60 games out lol – so 76-54 is just fine by me.
