Did Matt Harvey’s career quietly end on a Tuesday night in Albuquerque?

I don’t have one of those fancy subscriptions to the SF Chronicle, but they are reporting that Matt Harvey has an opt-out in his contract this Thursday.

I guess the theory is that with 40 man rosters coming that someone will give Matt a job in the majors?  My question would be why?  Why would you want a guy who isn’t signed to you in 2020, who will be 31, and who is seemingly toast?  Surely you have someone just as good/bad who is not going to be 31 next season and you could give that kid a shot?

Maybe maybe you are one of those teams that just needs to waste 30 more games?  maybe all your young SP prospects are at their innings limits, and maybe you want to shut some major league guys down…..and SOMEONE has to pitch?  And someone could be Matt Harvey?   I know we have seen Mets seasons gone wrong where Live Bodies are taking rotation turns, because Why Not?

Is that what Matt wants?  Does he want to be Matt Harvey of the Orioles for 4 weeks?  Does Matt want to spend September in Detroit?

I was amazed by how Zero Coverage their was of last night’s MH start.  Go ahead and Google it.  Most of the information will come from me, at home on the couch 2000 miles away, reporting on what the MILB.com Gameday Text was telling me.  Two guys tweeted one picture each.  If you want to know about Matt Harvey, all you have is me.

It’s over.   Harvey Day is gone.   Nobody cares.  This may be the sad ending: A Tuesday night in Albuquerque with nobody paying attention.  Sure, Opt-out and enjoy a month of Pittsburgh.   Or maybe just stay with the Aviators, at least they are in the playoffs, then hope Boras can con someone next Spring and pray the theory that it takes three years to recover from TOS was sound.  If not, what a sad sad ending for The Dark Knight.
