Mets Police Christmas Laziness: The Mets got you a Betances!

SLACKISH REACTION: Hey, look what the Mets got you! This was a nice surprise. (I am still confounded by the Mets’ complete lack of interest in timing any of their announcements for good media coverage…I am not sure late after noon on Christmas Eve is when you should announce things…but hey it’s Christmas and we got a nice gift so I don’t wanna be negative.)

Thanks Mets!  I like this a lot better than the Cano/Diaz you got us last year!

As for the deal, it’s so complicated I am gonna have to excerpt from MLB.com to even begin to comprehend it.

The structure of Betances’ deal gives him a chance to rebuild his value after missing almost all of last season due to injury. The contract includes a $2.2 million base salary in 2020, plus a $5.3 million signing bonus. It also includes a $6 million player option for 2021, with a $3 million buyout — thus the $10.5 million total guarantee. If Betances appears in at least 50 games in 2020, he will also trigger a $1 million player option for 2022 with a $500,000 buyout.

Got all that, because I don’t – but hey what a nice surprise from the Mets.

IN OTHER NEWS: I didn’t get one Mets thing for Christmas.  I can’t remember the last time that I didn’t get a cap/jersey/calendar/knicknack from my family.  I did get lots of Star Wars.  I guess that speaks to where my mind is these days.  Speaking of which, there’s yet another new episode of Shark and Goon for you to enjoy!   Yep, it’s a brand new episode for the 4th day in a row! A reminder that Shark and Goon has zero Mets content and is not about the Mets.

Back to gifts – well I did get myself a Mets cap, via Media Goon via his The7Line Elite Platinum Status…it was one of those new caps from a few weeks ago that I liked but forgot to actually buy.  Will post tomorrow or so.  I feel like hanging out today, not blogging.

I also found Donuts Chain to be surprisingly crowded this morning around 8. Usually my town is a ghost town on Christmas Morning but not today.  Just sharing.

Anyway, I hope you have a nice Christmas, and may the force be with you.  And remember, Die Hard is a Christmas movie and Noah Syndergaard is not in it.
