Hey it’s the Mets’ new star! Looks like he will fit in with the Vulgar Guy and the guy who hates the fans. Great job once again Steve and Alex! You guys run a hell of a brand.
What Mets fans talk about when not talking about the actual games.

I know a guy who used to work at Yankee Stadium and he has repeatedly told me George Steinbrenner would walk around and check on things and be like – Hey Joe, how’s that hot dog.
I thought of that last night when I looked up at Soda Corner and one of the lights was out. Now maybe the light went out at 7pm and they didn’t have a chance to fix it during the Lumineers show…but it just looks sloppy.
Like the LF retired numbers. It just looks sloppy that a bunch of them are faded.
Walking in, I noticed the bricks. Remember when everyone paid a few hundred bucks to honor their loved ones and line the WIlpons pockets? Those are all pretty beat up and faded. It’s the sort of a thing a billionaire (whose been known to write pretty big checks for things) could just be cool about to restore, but he isn’t going to do that, is he?
I was talking about the billionaire with a friend over dinner. The friend agreed with my theory, which I will float here so I can say Told Ya So. The theory is that when the casino gets declined, the billionaire loses interest in baseball and sells the team. It will be spun as we bought a $2B asset and sold it for $4B what a great investment.
Anyway, it’s the little things. Fix the Soda Sign. Paint the numbers. Restore the bricks.
The Mets social media used to be on point, but in 2025 I am finding it to be really really stupid.
The Mrs. Met account has started tweeting inane things, as if its being run by and targeted at 7 year olds with their first phone.
What’s even the point of this crap? At least the stuff of the main account is monetized.

Pete Alonso loves the Mets. Always wanted to be a Met and isn’t going to opt -out this off-season.

I was planning on writing about this anyway on Wednesday – but then Steve tweeted so I pushed it back a day – but much thanks to Howie Rose for illustrating the point.
Almost daily, the Mets will tweet something like this:

….faceless guys you’ve never heard of replacing faceless guys you’ve never heard of.
When I got into baseball, the Mets may have sucked, but at least it was a consistent group of guys who sucked together. Now it’s Vulgar Pete, a guy who disrespected Mets fans, and random reliever of the day.
Howie Rose must have noticed something similar because he tweeted:

36 different pitchers? What are we even doing? Why would I watch this? I know the old joke about rooting for the laundry, but you can’t even do that now because Steve and Alex messed that up with all the uniform variants.
This sport is a bad product. It’s probably unfixable now unless someone wants to make draconian rule changes (like if you pitch you have to stay on the roster for x days). The nerds came in and exploited all the flaws (much like what is happening in politics right now) and broke the system.
