Coronavirus Filler: The 1982 Mets Yearbook

Wow this plan failed.  The manager walked out on the team and George Foster is a timely reminder that just because you hit 50 home runs once doesn’t mean it will ever happen again.  LGM as they say.

$3.50 in 1982 is pretty darn pricey there Mets.

Note the caps are the current color not the electric blue of our faulty memories.

Baseball Hall of Immortals – Inductee #29: Cal Ripken, Jr.

The man who broke Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games played record definitely belongs in the Hall of Immortals – but not for breaking that record.  Cal Ripken, Jr. belongs in the HOI for his play on the field, not just because he went to work every day.

A 2-time MVP and perennial All-Star, Ripken changed the shortstop position.  Prior to him, shortstops were generally speaking good glove, no bat, defensive players.  Ripken was bigger, stronger, and could hit the ball.  Over the course of his career he hit 345 homeruns as a shortstop (431 total), more than anyone before (and still the record).  Prior to Ripken the record holder was Ernie Banks at 277.  Since Ripken, shortstops have become bigger and stronger, becoming more of an offensive threat.

Did I mention he also had over 3,100 hits?

As for the consecutive games streak – yeah it’s impressive, but IMO a bit overrated.  Yeah he surpassed Gehrig, but he did it while flying first class, getting the best treatment around, getting more off-days than Gehrig would get.  It’s really not a fair comparison.

Regardless, there is no questions that Cal Ripken, Jr. is an Immortal.

Tales of the Duck Knight: the disaster that was the 2020 Mets

As I played my Long Island Ducks season, I had almost zero influence over the 2020 Mets.  My Ducks are in the AL West.  The Ducks and Mets did meet for three games, but those were simmed.  The only influence I would have had on the Mets was the roster I put together for the Ducks.  Other than that, this is how the CPU saw things.

JDG did NOT win his third straight CYA.

A disappointing season for Rosario.  Is he a BUST?

A regression year for Conforto?

You’d be thrilled to get this out of Cespedes, no?

Vulgar Pete hit 21 Home Runs.  I am sure that went over well.  The F is for Fail.

Unfortunately for my narrative. The Alarm did no better.

Thor didn’t look right all year as if he was pitching through pain.

Wait…10-9 didn’t win the CYA?

There are five aces!

The Big Zero

And even my favorite Met disappointed.

And that Cani-Diaz trade isn’t getting any better.  One save lol.

Thats your 2020 Mets.  Aren’t you glad they didn’t play the season?  Given how bad the Virtual Mets were in April it’s amazing they didn’t lose 100 games.

Mets Phalanx Cap

So say you and your bros in the militia want to grab your AR-15 and make sure you’re allowed to get Subway Sandwiches in this time of tyranny.  You’re going to want to represent your team, but also have the ability to blend into the terrain should the tactical situation warrant you needing such an advantage.

Fortunately, the ’47 shop has the cap for these situations.
