Tales of the Duck Knight: Matt Harvey continues to roll in second half

Haven’t done one of these in a while (hey NBA2K is a better game) but let’s check back in with the AL West leading Long Island Ducks and our favorite virtual pitcher Matt Harvey!

It is September 11, 2020 and the Ducks have an 18.5 game lead.

Hey, I hope Matt doesn’t get distracted by that blonde in the first row!

TDK has been pitching well during the second half.  He struck out the first four hitters but his problem continues to be that every now and then he will give up a long ball and….OH NO

But did fine…6 innings, 7ks 4 hits and just the run.

Two hours and 4 minutes, the way baseball should be played.

And at the start of August the Ducks called up prospect Willie Mays, and he’s our player of the game!

The Ducks win their 97th, and comedians are starting to come to games.   It is good times all around.

Coronavirus Filler: The 1978 Mets Yearbook

We have finally made it to yearbooks I actually own!   My favorite, as it is my first, the 1978 Yearbook.  Take a look folks.  The next time you are complaining that the Mets don’t spend money, take a look at what I was dealing with in 1978….and it would get worse.

Look at the future stars like Bill Grief and Ed Kurpel.

Ken Henderson gets half a page and a generic cap

Jackson Todd, Roy Lee Jackson and Paul Seibert!

Johnny Bench, a bigger star than anyone currently playing.

Also Bench deserves an award for this.

And the New York Pretzel Corporation has ad ad budget!

Baseball Hall of Immortals – Inductee #26: Larry Jones

As a Mets fan does this hurt to say that Larry Jones is an Immortal?  No, not at all.  Jones may have killed the Mets at the plate, but he was never an a-hole (like Utley or Rocker).

Jones was one of the greatest offensive switch hitters the game has ever seen.  Plus he was no slouch defensively at one of the toughest fielding positions on the diamond.

Larry Jones is a great example of “I know someone is an Immortal when I see hem play.”  If you watched Jones’ career, it was obvious he was one of the all-time greats.

As an aside, I chatted briefly with Jones in Spring Training about 10 years ago.  He knew I was a Mets fan (II was wearing a jersey and cap), but that did not stop him from chatting with me for a bit.  I found him a lot friendlier and more approachable than many other “stars.”

Larry “Chipper” Jones is definitely an Immortal.
