Mets Yearbook: 1969 (Vintage edition)

Good morning. Seems quiet in Flushing, and today is supposed to be redesign day (redesign night actually) so once the coffee kicks in and I clear my daddy duties for the day, away we go.

My DVR tells me “Mets Yearbook 1976” is coming soon. That should be fun. In the meanintime, here’s some material from the films SNY is using to fuel Mets Yearbook. Let’s call this one “Mets Yearbook 1969.”

Osh41 did send me a ton of pictures from the Mets fans gathering, I will post those and Peter’s as soon as we move to the new place. As a reader, expect that at some point you come to the site this weekend and it looks different. Other than that, should be smooth sailing. I’m using a web design company called Minaya-Wilpon and supposedly they are the best.

A fun challenge from Amazin’ Avenue

I like Amazin’ Avenue, They do a great job, and are kind enough to link here. They busted my balls when I suggested Jose Reyes won’t be ready Opening Day (we’ll see…and I actually hope you guys are right and I’m exposed as a pessimistic dope) but here’s a good challenge via Amazin’ Avenue.

The Cyclones have designed a new logo. It is reminiscent of the Brooklyn Dodgers. I can’t wait to read Mets Police’s 20 post series in response to the lack of Met history.

Dan, my cohort in blogging and a big Cyclones fan is away this week, and I was planning on redesigning the blog this weekend…but it is a three day weekend, this seems like a fun challenge. I’m tempted to accept.

Tickets: comparing Big Apples and Oranges but…

I have no idea how Mets ticket sales are going (they still haven’t called Media Goon back, that’s the guy who wants to upgrade and spend more money) but here’s the Dodgers (a team that made the playoffs the past two seasons) talking about theirs:

The Dodgers sold 23,900 season tickets last year, club president Dennis Mannion said today. They have sold 20,700 so far this year, he said, with customers facing a Friday renewal deadline.

“My concern is the number of unpaid accounts that haven’t canceled,” Mannion said at baseball’s quarterly owners’ meetings in Phoenix.

Meet the Mets bloggers….Optimistic Mets Fan

1. Who are you and what’s the name of your blog?
I am Ceetar, of Optimistic Mets Fan

2. What kind of things can we find on your site?
I try to focus on my observations and the positive things I see, or why, despite certain negatives, i think the Mets can succeed. I decided this to counter what seems to be a pervasive attitude to think the Mets are cursed, doomed, or just bad. There are too many Joe Beningo Mets fans that can only see impending doom. A baseball season is a long season where plenty of things go right, and plenty of things go wrong. I’d rather look for the things that can go right rather than look for the things that could go wrong. I believe there is a set of ‘best case’ outcomes that will enable almost any team to reach, and win, the World Series. I think it’s a lot more fun to go to a baseball game thinking Daniel Murphy’s going to hit a home run than it is expecting Oliver Perez to walk 18 batters. I like to write about odd occurances and off-beat events I notice about the game or team in general. I also take a ton of pictures.

3. Expectations for 2010?
I honestly think the Mets have a legitimate chance in 2010. I’ve thought the Phillies have been overrated, and beneficiaries of a lot of luck. Obviously they’ve got more talent that I’ve thought, but I do see plenty of cracks in their game where if things don’t go right they could have a bad year. The Mets should be in the playoffs this year, and from their they have a real shot of winning it all.
