On deck for Thursday

Some random thoughts:

Contest (not really): anyone spotted any Bay jerseys in the wild yet? I’m surprised Modell’s doesn’t have one in the window. I bet they would if he signed with certain other teams. Winner gets to root for the Mets all season. Sorry, no prize closet but send one to pictures@metspolice.com if you see one in the Mets Clubhouse or on a civilian. Double-points for a Rangers jersey.

More with yearbooks and scorecards coming up today, and another installment of Meet the Mets Bloggers.

Site stuff: As previously mentioned, I’m working toward a move to WordPress (so the site looks nicer and works better). For those of you of a certain age, the current template is like the latter days of Atart 2600. Sure I can do Pac-Man but it’s won’t be awesome and it’s sure gonna flicker. There seems to be a comment-posting annoyance that some are experiencing, sorry ’bout that. Hopefully the move will clear that up.

Comments moderation is on because otherwise I get bombed with Omar Minaya comments that go down a road I don’t want to go. I think some of the criticism was fair back a few years ago, but there’s a way to phrase it.

If you’ve discovered the other blog I’ve been tinkering with (not pushing it, it’s just to teach myself WordPress but there’s a link there on the lower right if you’re curious) that’s part of the move. I want to know what I’m doing before the migration, not just rush out and sign Vince Coleman if you know what I mean.

More site stuff: seems a few on you like the Twitter/recent comments things I recently added. I wish they were prettier and will be after the move. Any feedback on the site appreciated at shannon@metspolice.com

This one is a 1969 World Series logo cap. It’s different, and it makes a statement. Click the cap if you’d like to buy one. Whew, I made it through a day of not mentioning color schemes. That was tough.

Pictures of the 1978 Mets Yearbook (Part 3)

Right in the front of the 1978 Mets yearbook you’ll find this photo. Duke Snider, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle all at Shea. Amazin’ I’ve occassionally looked for more pictures of this day and haven’t found too many (send ’em if you got em)

What’s amazin’ is that in 1977 the Mets had just 15 years under their belt and could figure out a way to have an Old Timer’s Day. In modern times we’re told it’s too hard – as if it’s somehow going to be harder to get Ed Kranepool to come by than it was to get three of the upper pantheon of players (sorry Duke) to show up.

What was the highlight of 2009? Arguably it was Nolan Ryan showing up. Nolan played in modern times, he has money – so it wasn’t that that stopped him from coming. If Ryan will show up so will Joel Youngblood. Moving on…

How about that Lee Mazzilli?

Once again I let you down and post a picture sideways, but here’s what happens when you trade Seaver and have to publish a yearbook. You hype the new guys. Don’t worry you’re not missing much.

Mets tickets Underpriced? Another ticket office story

Do/did the Mets think their tickets are underpriced?

As always I remind everyone that this ain’t 60 Minutes but so far even the Mets have agreed with us on the previous anecdotes. Scott wrote me the following, and I have no reason not to believe him. I have deleted the employee’s name and Scott’s seat location. Scott sent this before lunch yesterday (Bay day, so I held onto it).

I just got a call back from (employee) at the Mets ticket office after the deadline (I guess they didn’t sell my seats in 52x row XX yet). Though I appreciate her call and effort, when I told her that the tickets were extremely overpriced last year, she actually told me that management felt they were UNDER priced and could have been higher after doing their market research, which is why we didn’t see a truly significant drop this year. They dropped the seats they determined were overpriced. My response… well I know they’re going to have a hard time selling the tickets this year, so obviously they were overpriced, so I’m not about to debate that with you, but I do appreciate the call.

Scott added in a second email that the rep asked if there was anything to be done to keep his business, but no offers were made.

Interesting stuff.
