You sure 2012 Mets blue isn’t darker?

Officially the 2012 Mets blue is the same they have used since 1995.

@coreynyc was in the team shop yesterday and had his doubts

See how “Mets” is just way more crisp on the right? That was the point all these years. It’s just better branding. Maybe someone likes wearing a black jersey, but the drop shadow did nothing good for the look. (Also notice that the e and s now have an inner hole).

Anyways, that started a twitter discussion. Then @joeloverde81 posted this 2008/2012 comparison.

Hmmm.

When the Mets tell me something I stand by it. However, I’m heading out to the Holiday Party today, so maybe I’ll see if I can meet Kevin Kierst to find out what we don’t know. At worst I have a small-talk topic.

As for the “white” – 2011 pins were “cream.” 2012 pins are “ivory” and 2012 pinless are “snow-white” per a Mets official quoting Kierst to me. If you compare a 12 pinny and a 12 pinless side by side you will see the difference in whites.

I don’t know what official color the 2008’s were.

I recommend buying yourself a 2011 cream-pinstriped-with-dropshadow for your collection. They didn’t see all that much game use and they weren’t around very long. Some day you’ll wish you had one like this fine fellow. (I also own that green Murph.)

More later from the party!

I got the blues this morning

I busted out the blue jersey because it’s cold and I’m tired and I deserve to be happy. Blue makes me happy.

As I admired myself in the mirror I noticed how compact the script is. This is a self shot so you’re getting a bit of a rounded bubble effect, but the M is snug against the E in a way that will please Steve D.

What else is great is that the blue makes for nice civilian-wear. It looks pretty snazzy with my jeans I must say.

Some good stuff coming up today and scroll down to read some great stuff from Sandy.

Why Do The Brooklyn Cyclones Wear Red?

This is a shot of Brooklyn Cyclone’s pitcher Carlos Vazquez delivering a pitch on the road against the Staten Island Yankees.  Why red?

Brooklyn’s official colors are Blue and Gold, so it’s not because of that.

The Brooklyn Dodgers don’t appear to have ever worn red except for one year in 1901.  I don’t think that’s it.

Is it the actual Astroland Cyclone?  Looks like that might be the winner.

Insider: Most Mets Don’t Like Black Unis

I was down in Florida recently and attended several games, including a Mets-Braves game at Lake Buena Vista (pics to come soon).

Before the game I had the opportunity to chat with a few of the Mets.  One of them (not saying who) directly told me:

“…most of the guys in the clubhouse would love to ditch the black [uniforms and trim] and go with a blue alternate instead….we have a new clubhouse guy and he asked Dave [Howard] about it. Dave told him it was purely a marketing decision, that the black sells.”

So the guys in uniform AND the clubhouse guy all want to do away with the black.

The uniform discussion lasted several minutes and included thoughts on alternate shadings of blue (going back to a lighter shade) as well as orange trims.

Oh and as Shannon has pointed out many many times, if you look at the top selling items in the online Mets store, almost all are blue.  Dave Howard, are you paying attention?
