Some New York Yankees Policing (Batting Practice)

Ah, finally someone in the mainstream media has figured out that the modified batting procedure was a headfake…

A salute to Jim Baumbach in Newsday.

The Yankees believe they made a concession, heeding to fans’ complaints by allowing them to watch batting practice from a closer spot. But all those fans really get is to stand in the rightfield corner. If this is what the Yankees consider throwing the fans a bone, then perhaps they’re more out of touch than we thought.

It’s easy to think that the problem the Yankees must rectify here is restoring their connection with their real fans. But that’s going under the assumption that the Yankees believe their real fans are the millions of people out there working blue collar jobs and hoping to spend a few nights at the park this summer.

When, in reality, the message we’ve been sent this year is that they believe their real fans are the richie riches who — ultimately — have decided not to show up.

And now the Yankees don’t seem to know what to do.

Only 7 home runs last night at the Stadium.  (I love how Steve Somers calls it “The Place Across The street.”)

What a lemon.   Read the full column here.

An unexpected Yankee Stadium critique (LoHud)

This was on LoHud Yankees Blog yesterday

Some mid-day thoughts and an unexpected Stadium critique …

Yesterday, though, Yankees senior vice president Felix Lopez was on WCBS and, according to one trusted listener, said this: â€œThere are a lot of things wrong with this building we’re trying to fix. With the help of the fans and the media, we’re looking into everything.”
Understand, Lopez – who is married to George Steinbrenner’s daughter, Jessica – isn’t typically a big player in terms of Yankee machinations, but all the same—“There are a lot of things wrong with this building”? That’s strong. And, given all the heat that COO Lonn Trost and president Randy Levine have taken about the Stadium, it’s hard to imagine the rest of the Yankee brass being too pleased with Lopez’s … uh … honesty.

Mailbag: New York Yankees Stuff

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post “2009: The Year The New York Yankees Handed The Ci…“:

The Yankees will always be the more popular team. They were smart. They marketed their logo to the entire world. The Yankees logo is the symbol of NY. Rappers wear it and the kids love it. Hell I know met fans who wear yankee hats because they are stylish. I went to Ireland and all i saw were yankee hats. Some people didn’t even know what the mets were. The one thing the yankees lack alot of are baseball fans.

People are gonna kill me for saying that but its true. Im sure some yankee fans love baseball but they packed the old stadium with people who thought it was fashionable to be a yankee fan.

Could not agree more. Both Sterling and Waldman are terrible. His act would probably fly in a place like Atlanta where being a terrible homer is more accepted. Lets not also for get the Kay show and YES channel. TV broadcasting at its worst. The most recent lies are how full the stadium is being touted by Kay. You can sum up the Yankees and their fan base like this. A team so arrogant they name a TV channel after themselves.
