The New York Yankees Should Offer Rainchecks For 9:20 Start

A 9:20 start on a weeknight (actually any night) is unfair to fans.

I can understand the baseball aspects of needing to get the game in, but from a fan aspect it’s unfair to ask a working Joe to stay out until past midnight on a Monday, outside in the rain (three new NYC stadiums, no retractable domes).

George Steinbrenner was usually good about offering rainchecks to fans after a long rain delay, even if the game was played.  Hopefully his sons will follow in George’s footsteps and offer everyone who had a ticket for tonight a ticket to another game in 2009 or 2010.

They do have some extra seats you know…

New Stadium Insider’s Trip To Yankee Stadium

While you enjoy the rain delay…

New Stadium Insider went to Yankee Stadium on Friday.   He breaks down some good and some bad including:

The Mohegan Sun Sports Bar is a terrible place to watch a baseball game, contrary to an interesting review on River Ave Blues last week. A friend gave us a one day pass to the bar, and we spent one inning there. It would be great if it was just a sports bar that happened to have a peek into Yankee Stadium. Unfortunately, a peak is all you get, along with a total disconnect from the game and overpriced drinks. We were happy to head out of there to our seats in the nosebleeds.

..

Perhaps this is nitpicky, but the ramps to exit the stadium on the third base side of the upper deck are poorly designed. The decline is so gradual that any time one would save exiting the stadium because of wider concourses is lost due to the seemingly endless ramps. They could have made the ramps a little steeper and it would make for a quicker exit. Once again, we are aware this is nitpicky, but it annoyed the hell out of us.

The rest is here, NSI is a great blog check it out.

Most Popular On Mets Police (And Upcomings) May 2nd Edition

Every Sunday I recap those posts which captured the most attention, and the one’s I think deserved better.

Obstructed views tend to dominate, and I’ll have some obstructed views from Yankee Stadium later in the week – but let’s lead off with the absolutely unbelievable Worst Seat In Citi Field (Video)

I have this real job and all so I didn’t get to add to it this week, but folks enjoy the complete Pictures of Citi Field
and the Uncensored Guide To Citi Field.

I didn’t write it but I thought this black conservative’s take on Jackie Robinson Day was pretty interesting.

Also interesting was New Stadium Insider’s premise that there are 16,000 tickets to every Yankee game on the resale market.  That premise seems supported by this.

I know everyone hates this team now but Mets fans, what is it you would do to fix it?

Did you see the Keith Hernandez video ?  What about Strawberry?

Check out my back and forth with Remembering Shea as we discuss the issues with Citi Field.

Coming up (already written and scheduled):

Monday:  Solutions for Citi Field’s Obstructed Views, with photos of how to do it.

Also Monday:  Empty Seats and Skyboxes at Yankee Stadium.

Tuesday:  How to “Mets Up” Citi Field, by borrowing ideas from Yankee Stadium (with photos).

Wednesday:  Obstructed Views In Yankee Stadium Section 406.

Thursday:  Obstructed Views In Yankee Stadium Section 308.

Friday:  The Best Thing To Eat At Yankee Stadium Is….

What did we learn?  If you run a blog and go to a game, bring a camera!

Yankee Stadium Scoreboard Tara Video

This video isn’t good at all, but neither is Tara.  If you’ve been to a game you know who I mean.

I had my camera in my hand every single half inning but she never came back on.  All I was able to capture was this really quick snippet from when I first walked in.   Sorry it’s really short and you can’t hear her.

If anyone has good video of this nice lady please send it to [email protected]

New York Yankees – Boston Red Sox Is Not Baseball’s Biggest Rivalry (Forbes)

Some more fodder for an unexpected double off day (rainouts)

Baseball’s best Rivalries (Forbes magazine)

Absurd as it seems, Yankees-Red Sox tickets are no longer difficult to come by. Not long ago, scalpers charged the Bronx faithful epic markups for the benefit of a seat in the stadium. Now, if you log on to the Yankees’ Web site or walk up to the ticket window, you can get seats in almost any section. Another rivalry fallen into decline.

The top distinction belongs to the bi-coastal San Francisco Giants-Los Angeles Dodgers feud, which began as an inter-borough sauce back when the Giants played in Uptown Manhattan and the Dodgers in Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Why?  Read more here.

To calculate our list, we looked at every season since 1950 and tabulated how many times the two clubs had finished first and second in their division and how often they’d finished the season within five games of one another. Weighted equally with those two stats in our methodology is how much the meetings matter to fans–in other words, how much extra money people are willing to pay for a ticket.

The Giants played in Manhattan?  Really, who knew?  They never mention that at Citi Field.
