How often does one get to link to a Skip Lockwood article?  Awesome town…nice read if you are of a certain age.  Funny anecdote below.

“I’ll tell you exactly what I told catcher John Stearns the first day I got to the Mets. He said, ‘What do you throw?’ and I said, “I throw a fastball.’ He said, ‘Okay, I’m still listening,’ and I said, ‘You heard it. I throw a fastball,’” Lockwood said.

Mets Police Morning Laziness: screwed by Dunkin Donuts and David Wright is back

SLACKISH REACTION:  The Donuts Chain pulled the old “hot coffee we just dumped on ice” rather than an iced coffee.  NOT COOL DONUTS CHAIN!!!  You are not fooling me.   I may start a kickstarter for readers to buy me a replacement coffee and maybe a PS4 Pro.

David Wright sort of returns tonight.  He will be around at least.  Part of me thinks the Mets are jedi mind tricking humbly brining him under their watch – that will make it easier for them to act like he can’t play  – but his mind league rehab was up so might as well join the Metsies.

Here’s a nice article about the Mets and 51’s breaking up but deciding to still be friends.  Monday is the end.  I am still unable to find out What Happens To Cosmo?

That’s it.  Even the AAIMBR has nothing.  Well they never have anything, but I think they didn’t even bother to tell us tonight’s SP.  It’s Wheeler.  Pretend they wrote “Wheeler and Mets hope to beat San Francisco!”   I love those guys.  All 74 of them.

And yeah, the Harvey recap was the #1 article yesterday.  That’s why I do them.

Let’s have fun with The 7 Line’s Topps card customizer

So the t-shirt people are getting custom Topps cards…hold on John Oliver wants to chime in…

Cool.

…and well….be sure to click on the cards so you can see the full picture and the player names.

I love you all. Thanks D!

The Commish: MLB should Red Zone the NLDS and ALDS for one night

Welcome to The Commish, a series of posts where I try to save baseball.

Today’s idea is to Red Zone the ALDS and NLDS.

Let’s start simply for Year One.

The first night of the playoffs, start all the games at 7:30pm Eastern (where the population of the USA lives).  Let’s create a really buzzy night of television on a Tuesday night when there’s little sports competition.

The games can be on FOX, FS1, TBS and TNT in their normal fashion.

Over on MLB I want to Red Zone this.  We’ll have Bob Costas or someone sit in the studio and act like the Scott Hanson of baseball.   Unlike Red Zone, we’ll have all the games up on the screen at the same time….kinda like this….

In the big screen, the most interesting game with sound.  In the smaller boxes, the other three games.

So what about the commercials and all the complaining from TBS and FOX.   I dunno, figure it out.  Red Zone figured it out and FOX and CBS have stayed in business.  I’m trying to save the damn sport here.

I will point out I have left screen space for banner ads, and there is probably a way to show some ads in the big box.

My guess is this would go over really well and create a great night of television which is what baseball needs.

What about the poor folks the West Coast and the fans of the West Coast teams?

A valid point, but I am trying to save the sport here.  Again, let’s look at this graph that you glossed over the first time.

14%.  As Spock says, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.  Or the 14%.  I am trying to save the sport here.

Let’s take a look at what would have happened in 2017 with the actual matchups.

Houston vs. Boston.   Central vs. East.  6:30 playoff game, you’ll live.  Surely better than the 3:30pm local time start Astros fans had on October 5th….AT HOME.

Cleveland vs. New York (AL).   East.  Win.

Chicago vs Washington.  Central vs. East.  Fine.  In fact these two teams played at 7:31pm ET on October 6th

Dodgers vs. Arizona.  LA gets hosed with a 4:30 start….and I can’t keep track of what Arizona does with time zones or not.  I think in October this would be a 4:30 start.   Not pretty but for one night, let’s do it.

Let’s take a look at 2016….

ALDS:  Toronto vs Texas.  East vs Central again.  Discussed.

ALDS: Cleveland vs Boston.  East.  Nice.

NLDS:  Dodgers vs Nats.  Sorry LA.

NLDS:  Cubs vs Giants.  6:30 and 4:30.  Not ideal, but again for one night, deal with it.

Mets Police Morning Laziness: World War Wright is coming

SLACKISH REACTION: I overslept and gotta get moving, let’s get to this!

David Wright says he expects to play in the majors this year. The Mets said whatever they said the other day. I increasingly predict this is gonna get VERY UGLY. Like 1977 level ugly. Like worse than Seaver ugly.

David played on Wednesday night and went 0 for 5.

You know who else played…the Dark Knight! Matt Harvey recap posts continue to be the most popular thing I can do around here.

You know who DID find his fastball..Gary Cohen with a great call.

Here’s the Mets 2019 Spring Training Schedule way early.  Usually Michael Baron has to stitch one together based upon what other teams have announced.  This year, a actual schedule!  In August!

Mickey Callaway wore a sweatshirt in the dugout in August.  I’d fire him just for that.

Look I gotta get to work….good stuff coming up later (pre-written).  Have fun.
