Also, join us on January 10th for the Queens Baseball Convention for the annual presentation of the Gil Hodges Award.  The GHA committee emailed me within the hour about this year’s recipient and it’s a good one.

Need your nominees for METS PLAYER OF THE YEAR (QBC15.com)

We have an awesome emcee for the Mazzy Awards at the upcoming Queens Baseball Convention on January 10th.  We can’t tell you yet but you definitely know his voice.

One of the awards will be Player of The Year.  Before we take it to a fan-vote, we need some suggestions for the nominees.

Murph (of course, he’s an All-Star), that Rookie Of The Year guy, and who else?  Let us know in the comments or on twitter.

We’re looking for suggestions, not an actual vote yet.  Thanks!

Bigger than June 15, 1977: Wright and Harvey for Dickey and Reyes

wright and harvey

Here’s how this started. Our buddy @stlmetsfan5 started making noise about how my boy All-Star Daniel Murphy is overpaid, and besides there are cheaper alternatives in the system.

So, I suggested that if we don’t want to overpay for production, then it makes sense to play Murphy at third and deal David Wright.  The problem is the $20m contract for 8 HRs.

So….

dickey and reyes

The Mets need a SS.  Jose Reyes fits the bill…but the Mets aren’t upping their payroll by $22M, and the Blue Jays are not making this deal straight up.

Which brings us to Wright and Matt Harvey for R.A. Dickey and Jose Reyes.  That’s $34M in salary minus Wright’s $20 and whatever Matt’s gonna make.  So let’s say we need to clear another $14M to keep it easy.

Well, with Dickey back you don’t need Colon.  Dickey can be the veteran (we know he can handle Queens) and Colon and his $11 million salary.

Daniel Murphy takes over at third, and Flores and Herrera play second.  If they both hit then you can look at Flores at third in 2016.

I’ve gotten you Jose Reyes at SS for an extra $3 million.

Ask yourself…would the Mets be better with Murphy-???SS???-Wright or Herrera/Flores-Reyes-Murph.

And let’s not get too emotional about Matt.  If I told you right now Harvey is out for 2015 you wouldn’t freak.  You’d tell me the Mets have Colon, Zack, deGrom, Wheeler, Montero, Niese, Syndergaard and Gee.

Well I’m telling you you have Dickey, deGrom, Wheeler, Syndergaard and pick whoever you want.

As for the fan-base…Reyes and Dickey will fill the emotional void left by David and Matt.  There will be plenty to keep the media busy with these two back.

Is this nutty?  At first glance yes….but is it?  Search your feelings, you know it to be true.  This makes the 2015 Mets closer to winning it all, and that’s the goal isn’t it?

See you at the Queens Baseball Convention on January 10th.  I’ll be part of the “Meaningful Games in September: Good Enough?” panel (the answer is NO), and our guests include Mookie Wilson and Wally Backman.  Details and tickets at qbc15.com
