60th Anniversary Patch? Retail black Mets uniforms? Silence before Blue Friday

Maybe the Mets were distracted with their GM hirings but with Black/Blue Friday rapidly approaching, I am pleasantly surprised we haven’t heard anything about new uniforms being for sale on Friday.

First up, even the Mets probably know this is the 60th anniversary year.  I guess 60 isn’t as cool as 50, but I guess if they DID do a patch then Media Goon would buy a jersey.

More curious to me is that I don’t see any rumblings about black jerseys being for sale.  Earlier in the year we were told they would be coming out later this year.  This year is getting pretty late.  Maybe we get an announcement on Monday?

Both the LOLGuardians and Royals introduced new items yesterday, so maybe the GM announcement bumped a uniform announcement.  OR hopefully the black uniforms are back in the dust pile.

There is also no mention of selling the 9/11 jersey for retail.  I think these would be a reasonably big seller.  Surely more interesting than a Lindor jersey.

Also I was on the Mets Shop site just now – Noah Syndergaard? Who’s that? We have never heard of him.

Keith Hernandez shares image of book “Just released.”

Keith Hernandez, who reportedly once attended a New Year’s Eve party in Mar-A-Lago shared the following on his twitter.

The book is described on its Amazon page as…

The Real Anthony Fauci details how Fauci, Gates, and their cohorts use their control of media outlets, scientific journals, key government and quasi-governmental agencies, global intelligence agencies, and influential scientists and physicians to flood the public with fearful propaganda about COVID-19 virulence and pathogenesis, and to muzzle debate and ruthlessly censor dissent.

It is unclear if Keith shares this sentiment, wants you to read the book, or is just keeping is all up to date on the newest releases.

Recap: Mets introduce Billy Eppler as GM

Here’s a light recap of today’s press conference. Below are my live tweets.

Sandy spoke about “The Process” and explained that Billy is the only one who received an offer and the Mets totally didn’t want the other 15 guys.

Sandy also mentioned an “exhaustive” vetting process.  I guess sometimes baseball teams hire bad choices.

Billy said he is “tremendously excited.”

Mets “committed to building championship caliber” organization this time.

Billy’s first Mets game was in 2005.

Billy said Mets “want to build and drive a culture words words inclusive words words high operational standards” and whatever eater buzzwords the lawyers and PR team suggested he say. Looking at Sandy, Steve and Billy it sure screams inclusive.

Mets want to “look for opportunities” and will look at free agent and trade markets, as exclusively reported by Mets Police around 11am.

Mets will also look at options in the OF and IF as well as pitching. That’s a real thing that was said.

Billy would like to find a manager who is “great in all areas.”

Lots of talk about the “Baseball Operations Group” Either one person is in charge or nobody is in charge. This sounds like bad organization.

“Psychological Safety”

“Process Metrics”

Billy wants to increase Run Differential, so I guess he is OK with the Mets winning 22-7 then losing the next 10 games 1-0.

The owner said: : new GM “is a pro.” “Knows a lot about the game.”

New GM played it safe in Anaheim because he didn’t think they could overtake Houston! Wait until he finds out who won the 2021 World Series and what the division they play in!

Steve then made excuses for failure in 2021 saying there was first year learning. That is an excuse Steve. NO EXCUSES.

Steve “You’re not gonna fix everything the first year” – EXCUSE

Steve “I was trying to connect with the fans and I think I was successful at it.”

Steve “I will continue to tweet, probably not as much as I did previously.”

“Whatever they need” – owner on resources!

Billy: “This city teaches PATIENCE”.  ????????     Quite the opposite my friend.

Billy: Mets not expecting to make trades with Yankees!

Spider-Man. Will this guy manage the Mets? No.

Maybe what the Mets need is a hometown hero.  Someone who is from Queens and grew up a Mets fan.

Spider-Man has been attending games since the 1970s (seen here in his throwback New York Giants cap).  He is constantly thinking about the game and how the dimensions of Citi Field (The Wall) allow him to position his outfielders aggressively.

The only downside would be if Gelbs is replaced by J. Jonah Jameson.   Then things could get very ugly in the post-game.  I don’t think Steve Cohen will want to take that risk.

Will Spider-Man manage the Mets? No.

Mets name man who gave Matt Harvey $11,000,000 as new GM

He gave Matt Harvey $11,000,000

FLUSHING, N.Y., November 18, 2021 — The New York Mets today announced the team has signed Billy Eppler to a 4-year contract to be the club’s 16th General Manager.

Eppler, 46, served as the Los Angeles Angels General Manager from 2015–2020 and worked for the New York Yankees in a variety of capacities from 2004–2015, rising to Assistant General Manager, before joining the Angels on October 4, 2015.

“Billy has the experience, character, and respect of the baseball community that will allow him to attract the players and front office talent to lead the Mets forward,” said Mets Owner, Chairman, and CEO Steve Cohen. “He is a leader who has worked in two of baseball’s biggest markets and his talents and personality will move us closer to my goal of sustained success.”

During his time with the Angels, Eppler gave Matt Harvey $11,000,000, signed Shohei Ohtani in December, 2017, agreed on a 12-year extension with Mike Trout just before the 2019 season and tabbed Joe Maddon as the team’s manager during the 2019 offseason.
