Stars and Stripes caps proceeds

I don’t like the design but the cause is good..

MLB Properties will donate all of the proceeds it receives from the cap sales to Welcome Back Veterans, and that fund also will receive $1 from each additional cap bought through the MLB.com Shop.

Meet Keith Hernandez on Saturday

New York baseball legend Keith Hernandez will be on hand to greet everyone who stops at Amalgamated Bank’s branch in Flushing to take a crack at winning $100,000.

The Amalgamated branch at 158-11 Harry Van Arsdale, Jr. Ave., where it intersects with Parsons Boulevard, in Flushing will host the Break the Bank event. The fun begins at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 5 and will continue until 1:30 p.m. Anyone who is 18 years of age or older will get one chance to enter a five-digit code on the vault’s keypad. The first person who enters the correct series of five numbers wins all the money.

As a special bonus, Hernandez, who is a multiple Gold Glove winner and World Series Champion, will pose for a photo with each person who visits the branch. The photo is a keepsake that each person can take home.

In addition, Flushing Branch Manager Kathleen Kaufmann will hold a drawing for prizes that include baseballs and bats autographed by Hernandez, who is now an Emmy award-winning TV sports broadcaster in New York City. The former All-Star first baseman will also sign his name on one sports memento for each fan who comes to the event. The branch will also raffle off tickets to a major league baseball game, a MP3 player and a case of All-Natural Popchips™, which will be provided by the event’s co-sponsor, Popchips. Light refreshments will be available. To complete the experience, WFAN-The Fan radio station will bring its Fan Van crew to the Break the Bank event and will provide giveaway items.

For more information, visit www.amalgamatedbank.com or contact the Flushing branch at 718.-380-7083.

Paint your floor like the Mets bathrooms

From over the weekend…@formerdirtdart posted this in the comments section.   The topic – how we can all remodel our homes to be more Mets-like.   Some of us like the paint in the Citi Field bathroom floors…

The floor speckled paint is kind of an industrial-like application, commonly used on garage floors. First the gray paint is applied, then colored flecks are scattered over it, and sort of melt into the paint.

Over the weekend I was writing about the Mets Police HQ renovations….it’s sort of like Formerly New Yankee Stadium (1976 version)…we tear down a room to the frame and then rebuild.   I asked for the family room to be painted blue and orange but Mrs. Mets Police (whose maiden name might be Howard) insisted on green.   I guess that’s an homage to the Polo Grounds.

I also asked if we could put up a Fathead but she wants to put the painting back.

As long as the TV works and she stays the heck off MY computer (she has one she can break and load up with viruses) I’m fine.
