Update from organizers of Save Yankee Stadium Gate 2

I really hope these guys pull this off.  From my email…

To Our Supporters of Yankee Stadium Gate 2,

I just wanted to give you a quick update of where we stand with regard to our proposal to preserve Gate 2 within the new Heritage Field to be built on the site of Old Yankee Stadium.

Gate 2 is still not in the plan for Heritage Field. On February 22, 2010, the New York City Design Commission granted preliminary approval to the revised Parks Department plan without Gate 2. The demolition of the “House that Ruth Built” is proceeding and currently scheduled to be completed by June 2010. Sections of the Upper Grandstand are being removed. We will continue to work with the local community and the appropriate New York City agencies in our efforts to Save Gate 2.

In the meantime, I want to let you know that your support for us is most appreciated.

To paraphrase Yogi, “It ain’t over as long as Gate 2 is standing.”

Regards,
Mark

More on this story here and here.

(For Mets Police newbies, I sometimes check out what’s going on in the Bronx.  Pretend you’re with your hot girlfirend that you really love and another chick walks by.  You look.  I don’t know why we do that, we just do.  This is the baseball version).

Photos from Citi Field on Monday

Ben who has his own Mets related blog at metsiesandothermusings.blogspot.com was kind enough to send over some of his photos from Citi Field on Monday, and I added one more of my own –  the man at the ticket window.  It’s a funny shot of one guy buying tickets but let’s be fair…it was 6pm.

I forgot to mention my reaction when I got off the subway. The main staircase was closed, so I had to take the “normal subway station” one on the left as you exit. I wasn’t really thinking, and walked down those side stairs like I have done hundreds of time and I looked up to see Shea and there was nothing there! The emptiness caught me by surprise! I don’t know if my brain expected Shea or thought Citi was further over or what….anyway Citi was over on the right.

“Jeff Wilpon’s” video blog (parody)

I gotta admit, I’m feeling really good about the Mets this morning.  I’m even thinking about buying a 15 game plan.  Y’all got me thinking about Promenade Infield over the weekend, and if you click on the 15 game plans there are good sections available.  Plus,  I told you that brochure was good and was buckling my knees.  Well done ticket guys!

I suspect some of you will be like WHAT???  Hey, I want to feel good about the Mets.  That’s the whole point of the site.  Today I feel good.  We’ll see if the mood sticks.

Anyway…I suspect the below will make the rounds and be very popular.

Photos: new Citi Field fanwalk sites?

As I walked around Citi Field last night I didn’t see too much new – I could have taken another daytime shot of the boards where the museum will be but there’s nothing really to add – and I was almost late for a meeting, and it was dark when the meeting ended…wait, did I say I had a meeting? oops….anyway, here’s the locked rotunda, and the other two shots are from the third base side…one a closeup…I assume these will be where more bricks will go.  Click on the pics for a much bigger view.
