Mets Dysfunction captured in one tweet

Hey that’s great and all, but YOU JUST BROUGHT IN CANO FOR 5 YEARS.

Bragging that you have a great second baseman who isn’t Cano is……insane*

* – I am not an expert in determining if someone is insane or not, but seems insane to me.

Anyway, can never have enough second baseman or closers.  You can definitely not have enough OFers, I can show you an example of a team with such a roster if you’re interested.

The Long Con: the plan to play McNeil in the Mets outfield.

The good looking man in the nice suits has people fooled.

We were told that the days of hoping for the best were over.

It was very exciting to bring in a Big Name. The big name is 36 and coming off a PED suspension.  And he has a long contract.

Then a second closer was brought in even though the spin was that the first deal was really about bringing in a closer and the 36 year old coming off a PED suspension was the add-on.  Yeah, ok.

Now, another member of the bromance team has joined the party.  A second second baseman.   Who is going to play every day at Position Du Jour.   OK fine, he’s a legit player and probably better than what’s been at 3B anyway.

All this distracts from the big news of yesterday.

The Mets plan to play Jeff McNeil in the outfield.  What happened to not hoping for the best?  In the somewhat-long history of the Mets, how many infielders have been sent to the OF only for it to be a disaster?

This is not a plan, this is hoping for the best.

Meanwhile, who is playing first base? I know many of you think the Mets are going to start Alonso beginning Opening Day (they’re not) and that you think Alonso is going to win the Triple Crown. That’s not a plan, that’s hoping for the best. That’s hoping a kid comes up and is awesome.  Dom Smith says hi.

This is Same Old Mets. Sure,  the Same Old Mets with slightly more depth thanks to Lowrie, and an upgrade at C, but this is also a Mets team with a GM that is talking about Broxton like he’s an All Star.

Jeff is being fooled by the new dog and pony show. “Come get us” sounds great in January, until you realize you’re playing a 27 year old infielder with two months of experience in the OF and there is no first baseman.

The press conferences are fun and all.  Talking smack creates a shirt term high.  Hope for the best – because the window is closing.

Mets Police Morning Laziness: Wags says Come Get Us, doesn’t understand Mets Karma

SLACKISH REACTION:  My boy Wags was talking some smack late afternoon yesterday coming down off the We Announced I Signed Another Second Baseman Who Happens To Be An Ex-Client Of Mine high,

Oh Wags….don’t you understand Mets Karma? Now Thor is gonna slip on a banana peel and crash into Cano’s knee on a staircase. Stay humble bromance.

Wait what? The OF is not a priority? We’re playing McNeil out of position? Keon Broxton? WHAT????

Do you think Wags follows me?

Anyway, Wags had his presser with another one of his bro-pals, which I recapped here, and SNY.TV showed like this…

Anyway, Lowrie was a good signing.  Even if part of a sleeper agent’s long con.

ICYMI The Mets played us all with the Piazza Spider-Man thing…and had a Spider-Man bobblehead ready to announce.  I am told the line outside the Rotunda is 17 miles long but the Mets are not going to open the gates just yet.

Wilmer Flores signed with the Arizona D’cks.  As an ex-Met expect Wilmer to hit .385.

Mets introduce #4 IFer Jed Lowrie, coincidentally ex-Wags client who also plays 2B like Cano

The Mets held a press conference to introduce Jed Lowrie.

It was not on SNY-TV but was on the Facebook page.  I am trying to figure out why they don’t televise these, and my working theory is that by doing web only they can have some intern run the camera instead of paying some union cameraman.   This will be relevant in a second.

Two things caught my ear.  One was the first position that came to Wags’ mind was second base.  Wait until Wags finds out he gave away the store for Cano (yeah yeah and a closer, too bad Familia wasn’t available as a Free Agent…hold on Wags is being passed a note).

He also said that Lowrie already knows a lot of people in the org.  YEAH, like his former agent.

Anyway, it’s a good signing – real teams have depth like this – but I still think this is a long con and Jeff has NO idea what Wags is up to long term.

Oh wait, a third thing….Wags gave a long list of people who signed off on this…including….David Wright.  Come on.

Anyway back to the camera-man…you may notice some heads are cut off below.  That was the camera shot that SNY/Mets used for the public.  As of 2:18 I don’t have a press release from the Mets so I can’t share any info with you.  You can read the one I made up last week.

Lowrie will wear #4 but be number one in your hearts.
