The 126th Street Soccer Stadium, Affordable Housing, the new schools and other unicorns not coming near Citi Field

Here’s another one of those articles people SHOULD read but won’t…and then will be mad about in 5-10 years when they start paying attention.

New Gothamist has a good walk through about the soccer stadium coming to 126th Street.  You know, the one Queensboro FC is gonna play in.  You know, because we’re gonna build a 25,000 seat soccer stadium, not for an MLS team but for a D2 USL team.  Because there’s soccer demand for 25,000 for minor league soccer.

That of course might be in place of, or in addition to, who knows, to the schools, the affordable housing, and/or the Delta Airlines parking lot.   And maybe a mall across the street.   Here’s Gothamist with more…

Also unclear is how much city money has already been spent on the Willets Point project, and how much would still be needed to prepare the site, which lacks basic infrastructure like sidewalks, streetlights, or sewers, needs to be raised to prevent flooding from Flushing Creek, and requires toxic waste cleanup after years of auto servicing on the land.

….

Currently, QDG has committed only to building 1,100 affordable units on the southernmost six acres of the 23-acre “Phase 1” site, implying that it needed the cash from the now-stymied mall project to fund any more.

Anyway, when that new soccer stadium opens let me know.  Maybe we can meet in front of the new school next to the affordable housing.  And Mexico is going to pay for it.

If you’d like to be an educated fan of all things Wilpon…oh don’t think they aren’t part of this….read the Gothamist piece.

Mets Police Morning Laziness: Make Moves, Not Excuses and Slogans.

The pitching coach has a new catch-phrase: Make Pitches, Not Excuses.

That’s nice and all but don’t the Mets ever realize how stupid they are.  Now that that’s out there…and includes NOT EXCUSES….it is begging to be ripped, shredded and reworked and mocked.  How about MAKE MOVES Not Excuses. How about SIGN HARPER not excuses etc.  You know what to do.  I have to get to work again (sigh, what is even going on with me Actually Working all the time now) and need coffee.

The article also discusses the misguided theory of not taking one pitch off.   Hopefully that means Strategy-Wise and not Mickey Hodges’ dumb idea of using your best stuff on every pitch.  That is called THROWING, where the art of pitching is to set people up for the third AB.  I will let Tom Seaver explain that when I have more time.

The newspaper made itself useful for the first time in months….

Wright will receive $9 million this season, with a $4 million lump sum coming on Thursday and the other $5 million given to him through the course of the baseball calendar. The remaining $6 million will be deferred with 2¹/₂ percent interest, compounded monthly, with annual $2 million payments coming each July 1 (better known in the Mets’ world as Bobby Bonilla Day) from 2021 through 2023 and the interest paid out on Dec. 31, 2023. (via NY Post)

Nobody cares @mets. Sign some real depth. Or start a skateboard team.

SLACKISH REACTION:   Not sure which was worse…Trump reading a speech with zero inflection like he was in 6th grade….or the Dems pulling out two of their least charismatic people to reply.  Here, watch this…

Yeah yeah shut up and stick to baseball I thought this was a Mets site etc.   Sorry, I live in America not Metstropolis and I can multitask.  Besides I just attacked both parties, this way EVERYONE can be mad at me.

Can Justin Turner hit a baseball blindfolded?

If the Mets showed up in orange pullovers what would you do?

Blood Drive today with Kranepool, Shamsky and Mr. Met.

Mets Blood Drive on Wednesday…now with more 69!

Did I do an immature headline?  Yes I did!  But I did it for a good cause…to get you to read this to create awareness for the Blood Drive.  If you can, give blood and help others.  Plus you might meet a 1969 Met.

The New York Mets will host alumni Ed Kranepool and Art Shamsky at Citi Field on Wednesday, January 9. The Mets legends, who are being honored along with other members of the 1969 team at the New York Baseball Writers’ Dinner on January 26, will be taking a tour of the Mets Museum at the ballpark and talking about their championship season.

The Mets annual Winter Blood Drive on January 9 from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. will take place in the Foxwoods Club at Citi Field. Fans donating blood will receive a voucher redeemable for two tickets to a select Mets home game in 2019 excluding Opening Day. Donors must be 17 years of age (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.

I would be there in the 11am hour if you’re hoping to get a glimpse of Art and Ed…no guarantees….but anyway give blood will ya?

Also Mr. Met will be hanging at 1.

Also also thanks to the Mets for sending me a press release for a change…although technically this was a Media Alert.
