White Sox #41, Tom Seaver

Since Osh41 still hasn’t submitted another episode of his look back at Mets uniforms series, I will continue to taunt him with bad memories.  This is Tom Seaver.  He was not on the 1984 Mets Osh.

  1. One could argue that Seaver leaving the second time led to the quick emergence of Doc and a WS title in 1986. Or maybe rushing Gooden led to his drug use.

While I loved Tom, I would prefer the 1986 title over him having stayed if I had to choose between the two.

  2. Really glad the White Sox ditched this uni in favor of the black ones they now have. While not a horrid as the ones they had with shorts a few years before, still not good in any respect. Seaver deserved better than to have to wear the uni from the Chicago team in the junior circuit.

  3. Seaver should have been with the Mets; Carlton Fisk should have been with the Red Sox.

This Sox uni reminds me very much of the Robert Plant album covers of that vintage.

  4. I guess they thought that jersey was too sharp to ruin with a number on the front, so they put it on the pants instead.

Also, those duds are further proof of my long-held belief that what we think of “the ’80s” didn’t really start until ’85. Until then, there was way too much ’70s still bleeding over.
