Last Nights Game

Mets lost last night. I am sure you all know that already. Positives was there wasn’t a shutout or a no hitter against the Mets. Brad Eamus looked good at second and Beltran got through the game in right in one piece. Well in one piece as far as we know for now. Even down in runs, I still felt like the Mets had a chance.

Negatives. Ike has to get in front of the ball. Backhand plays while exciting need to be used only when you can not get to the ball in time. Pelfrey had a rough few innings. You know rough as in giving up a grand slam in the fourth inning.

On twitter it seemed there was some optimism that the Mets might come back while others were tolling the death knell for the season.

All I have to say is that it’s going to be an interesting season.

  1. Another negative for me is that it looks like another year that we won’t see blue caps on the road.

  2. Get rid of the hybrids!
Anyway, I watched on and off…trying to be optimistic, but it’s tough. What happened to Wright? I mean he has become a strikeout machine over the last few years!
Did I mention I am also an Indians fan? It’s gonna be a long season.

  3. Another thing: the Marlins broadcast team was brutal; when they interviewed Mike Lowell, there was 0% game commentary. I watch a lot of Nats games, as well as Orioles, nowhere near as bad.

  4. They gave us stuff we have seen enough of the last few years. Grand slams to the opposition, no hits etc. but it’s the first of 162. Pelt does need to mix in a breaking pitch once in a while to change speeds. Even Metspolice was able to time Osh41’s fastball in wiffleball if I threw it a bunch of times in a row.

This is a .500 club AT BEST. The fan base needs to adjust their expectations to that. Which means they will win one and lose one very often.

  5. It’s ALWAYS an interesting season. That’s what binds us to this franchise against any sane person’s better judgment. Good, bad, or ugly, it’s never boring.

I’m a little more optimistic than Osh41 as far as the final result of the season, but it won’t be much over .500. What I expect to be maddening is the streaky-ness. There will be times where they lose 3 in a row, then rattle off 4 wins in a row and look like world-beaters only to go on the skids again. That tends to happen when you’re neither all that good nor all that bad at something.
