OPENING DAY: The Mets are set to open their 50th season in the National League…New York has a 32-17 (.653) record on Opening Day…After losing their first eight Opening Day contests, the Mets have won 32 of their last 41 Opening Day games…New York took nine straight openers from 1975-1983 to tie a major league record…The Mets have won their last five Openers, the longest current streak in the majors…New York is 8-3 in their last 11 Opening Days.

MIKE PELFREY: Is making his first career Opening Day start… Johan Santana started the three previous Mets season openers …The last Mets pitcher to make his first ever Opening Day start while with the Mets was Mike Hampton in 2000…Pelfrey will become the first Mets pitcher to make his first Opening Day start after spending his entire career in the Mets organization since Bobby J. Jones in 1995

OPENING VS. FLORIDA: The Mets and Marlins begin the season for the second straight year…The Mets beat the Marlins, 7-1, last year at Citi Field on April 5…New York is 2-1 all-time on Opening Day vs. Florida…The Mets have begun the season twice before in Miami…On April 5, 1999, the Mets lost, 6-2, and on March 31, 2008, Johan Santana in his Mets debut, beat the Marlins, 7-2.

  1. Anyone else notice that the bottom of the mets bats had blue circles with the mets jersey number in the Orange mets font with the white outline (think the player shirts or old school bp jerseys).

    i thought that was pretty cool.

  2. I have seen a new color configuration on the Mets script logo…once on a banner behind Collins, once in a commercial on tonight’s game…it looks good! It is Mets in script in blue with a white outline and orange drop shadow…no black. And it looks like it is not the crooked M version.
