    1. Agreed, and it would be nice to continue watching his career develop in the NL East, than never see him if he went out west.

Assume he goes, Tejada takes SS, 2B becomes a platoon of sorts, and let’s assume w the new walls, Bay and Wright have a slight reversion to form, and Pagan stays healthy, and Duda steps up, and Ike comes back healthy. And assume they either retain Pagan or find a suitable replacement (not necessarily an upgrade.)

Then, to me, they should plow their money into a catcher and a pair of relievers. Thole is not MLB ready in my book, at all. SS is a glitzy position, but I think C is more important to a contender. Between defense and calling plays and conditioning the staff, the C is the field general.

      1. I’ve gone back and forth, but I have to say, from an investor’s standpoint, I think letting Reyes go is the smart thing to do. I was not impressed with his demeanor during those key seasons when the Mets contended for the division. His hammies worry me. Losing whole seasons to injury, or running himself out of a season, doesn’t add up to a good core.

If Tejada continues to show he can improve, then we can allocate that money towards positions of genuine need.

  1. I would find this hard to believe this early in the game. He waited to become a free agent so he could get offers from multiple teams.

I think he will talk with a few other teams before he decides. I feel strongly that the Mets are not even really a player in this!
