The below is a great walk through of the Modell’s Club, with some pics of the new “Mets stuff” from last night. Here’s Jason:
The girlfriend (a reformed Yankee fan) and I went out to CitiField tonight, and feeling rather “bleh†about the Mets lately, we decided to wander around the stadium a bit before heading to the back row of section 516. Wandering down to the bullpen gate, we noticed the door for the Modell’s clubhouse. I mentioned how I’ve seen almost no information around the web about the clubhouse, so the girlfriend and I wandered over that way so ask some questions. I’m not sure if we accidentally snuck in, or were just in the right place at the right time, but we just wandered in, had a wristband slapped on us, and told that we were about to have quite an experience.
The first thing we saw was a nice long table stocked with hotdogs, grilled veggies, potato salad, pasta salad, and wings. It all looked pretty good, so I looked around to check the prices. No prices listed. After a second of looking around and putting 2 and 2 together, I realized that under no circumstances was I going to leave this room if I didn’t have to. Free food. Free beer. Free mixed drinks. We noticed a couple of more tables with snacks and deserts. Popcorn, Cracker Jack, cupcakes, and mixed fruit were there for the taking as well.
The room is intended for rental by groups and parties. I didn’t ask what was going on today, as I wasn’t about to draw attention to the fact that I might not belong there in the first place. While in Boston for a Met game hit past May, we hit the Bleacher Bar and were impressed with the view, even though it was only a small section that you could see the field from. The Modell’s clubhouse expands on this, with fencing for every wall that faces something of interest. There is a mix of regular tables and high tables, in the middle of the room, with padded benches up front near the field. With no seat assignments of any kind, we just grabbed a table in the front corner nearest the bullpens. From everywhere in the club was an awesome view of the field and bullpen, although we were unable to see any of the video screens from where we were. I assume you can see the main screen if you’re on the side of the club near the foul pole.
The negatives were few. We couldn’t see the stadium video screens, but the video ribbons around the field gave us all the important info, and there were TVs inside that showed the game on TV, with the feed from one of the main screens shown during commercial breaks. We were unable to hear the sound system, except for the national anthem, although since I pretty much know when to MAKE SOME NOISE, that wasn’t too bad. The last negative is purely based on my luck, as our time in the room came during a game that lasted on 2 hours and 19 minutes.
Some of the new Mets stuff. Strawberry, Hernandez, and Gooden up on the wall. Apparently, they reanimated Casey Stengel, since he managed to walk in to my picture.
Dave Racaniello was really friendly, yakking it up to some of the fans up on the porch, and going as far as to send in some baseballs to the kids hanging out near us.

The bathroom. Occupancy: 1, but with room for friends if you’re in to that.
Our view straight to the right. I didn’t see how the Mets pitchers were watching the game, but the visitors have a bench with a nice TV at the end.
Mets stuff! A decorative wall that you walk around to reach the Men’s room. A similar one of on the other side with Santana and Castro leading to the ladies room.

Another view from inside the room, this time facing more of the field. Seating near the screen is pretty well padded benches with a shelf up front for use as a table.

Tomorrow we’ll have some pics Media Goon sent over from the suite level, but right now it’s 90 degrees and sunny out so we should all put our computers away.
