Today’s Alternate Mets Cap is officially purple. It looks blue and Dodgerish to me, maybe Jeff could buy one for dad for Christmas.

The alternate colors (the more far-out ones) are in general an urban trend. The Yankees and Dodgers have perfected this and profited accordingly. The Red Sox are hot on their trail. There's no need to disparage the trend, just don't participate. And know that if you ain't gangsta, it isn't being marketed to you.
