Why The December 4th Deadline?

I find myself wondering why the Mets made the deadline for season
ticket renewals December 4th. Before we all go bananas, last year it
was around the same time (Dec. 5th I believe).

Despite that, I find myself wondering why make it so early this year.

Why do they want or need to know (three weeks from now!) how many
tickets have been sold?

If they find a low base does it affect the offseason decisions? Does
it make them spend less because they think they'll have leas revenue,
or do they panic and realize they need a new face in town to sell
tickets?

The vibe I am getting, and concede this is the home of the cranky Mets
fan, is that folks don't feel like paying just yet. Last year there
was urgency because of the new place. Heading into 2010 – the best
line was from whoever pointed out we can go to 23rd street if we
really want a shake.

Is the deadline supposed to scare me? They couldn't sell out the
building last year so it's not like I won't be able to get tickets. I
might even be able to buy your tickets below face on stubhub.

I'm actually curious about this – if anyone has any insight into this
(maybe one of the sportswriters who check out the site) please drop me
